More than 8,000 children are in the care of the B.C. government at any one time, with about 700 of them aging out in an average year. When youth in care reach their 19th birthdays, they are considered adults and no longer eligible for protection under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCS Act). This report by B.C.’s Representative for Children and Youth examines the unique needs of those youth and makes recommendations about how those needs could be better met moving forward.
