The Gathering Children’s Input for the UN’s Day of General Discussion on Children’s Rights and Alternative Care is an initiative intended to center the voices of youth and children in the discussion of alternative care within the context of the “UNCRC Day of General Discussion on Children’s Rights and Alternative Care”. Using a multi-phase framework from January to June of 2021, the project will seek to embed meaningful youth engagement throughout its entirety, from methodological development to implementation.
Working from a collaborative, child rights and strength-based approach, IICRD’s Kate Butler, Katie Reid, Laura Wright, and Vanessa Currie will work alongside youth advisory teams to develop a plan for this consultation, including a highly engaging methodology rooted in art and play.
The implementation of this project plan will seek to address a number of goals in relation to the UN Day of General Discussion, including the creation of input opportunities for children and youth. An extensive data analysis phase will culminate in a report of key themes and recommendations, as well as the creation of a child and youth-friendly summary of the findings.
