Medina Empey is a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies student at Royal Roads University in Victoria, Canada. While Medina’s degree has mainly focused on justice at a national level, she plans on continuing her quest for knowledge on an international level by pursuing a Masters in Human Security and Peacekeeping after completing her Bachelor’s degree.
Medina has worked in the field of restorative justice - working with non-profit organizations for approximately 3 years after completing a practicum with the Correctional Service of Canada’s Victoria Parole Office in 2017. There, she worked with high-risk individuals reintegrating into the community. Most recently, she has pursued her passion for working with youth in need of support, advocacy, and protection.
Medina believes that developing meaningful and collaborative relationships with youth can offer valuable opportunities for growth in many different areas. She is grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with the International Institute for Child Rights and Development and hopes to provide valuable research that will benefit youth in communities across the globe.
